Now you will have a dialog box with the Installed engines, if none are installed you will want to click the + button, and install the most recent 64bit engine from the dropdown menu, (WS11WineCX64Bit19.0.2-2 at the time of this writing), click download and install.Īfter you have an engine installed you can click “Create New Blank Wrapper”, give your new app a name such as “Spore”, then click OK. ![]() Right clicking and then clicking Open will allow you to click “Open on that dialog box to open the app. This contains the Wineskin Winery app, move this to the Applications folder if you wish, then in order to open you MUST right click on the app, then click Open, otherwise macOS will yell at you that “Wineskin Winery” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified. IDK if I should try making a video tutorial or just text post, but if anyone is interested and doesn't know how to get it working let me know.Īnother MUCH easier option is to use Crossover for Mac, however that does cost money, this option is free. It may be a bit technical, but if anyone has issues I can try to make a tutorial and post it (I made my app a while ago so I'd have to re-create it). I have Spore running great on my new M1 Mac mini, just using default settings for everything and installing Spore inside the WineSkin app it makes. SO if you have a copy of Spore for Windows, either through Steam, GoG, Retail Disc, etc, you can basically re-encapsulate the game in a new 64-bit container and it'll run! Maxis did their encapsulation so long ago so its still 32-bit. They used a version of Wine called Cider, but the reason you can't just run Spore on a modern Mac now is 32-bit executables are no longer compatible with macOS, and only 64-bit can run. WineskinServer allows you to basically recreate the way that Maxis ported Spore over to Mac many moons ago. Just search for your desired software, and you're bound to see others in the same boat as you.FYI for anyone who has a Mac that wants to play Spore again. winetricks.sh dlls listĭifferent programs rely on different DLLs, so I recommend checking the official Wine application database for some hints on what to install. If you enter this command, Winetricks can also show you all the possible DLLs you can install with it. ![]() All you have to do now is ask Winetricks to install a specific file in the terminal like so. The second command makes the script run. Linux prevents random scripts from being executable by default for security reasons. The command below uses Wget to download the script: wget -O winetricks.sh A shell script called Winetricks automates this process so you don't have to worry about the process. To do this however, you need to download them, and explicitly tell Wine to use them. In many cases, this can aid in better compatibility. Wine has the ability to use Windows DLLs alongside their own reverse engineered ones. ![]() Use Native Windows Components With Winetricks ![]()
